Gratitude is your springboard

By Alison Ramsay

Gratitude is the feeling place of appreciation and is the springboard from which you will feel more positivity and attract more goodness into your life. It connects deeply into our lesson on attention because gratitude automatically puts our attention on things that make us feel good and are going well for us.  Gratitude will magnify positive emotions and put your attention on the present.  It teaches us to really appreciate the value of something, gain more pleasure from life and deter toxic emotions because you can’t feel grateful and angry or resentful at the same time.  Studies show it also has many physiological effects as well, like boosting our immunity and decreasing stress levels for better relaxation and sleep.

As part of your daily rituals you should already be writing your gratitude list. Be sure to write it like this: I am truely grateful for _________because  __________ thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. Try to instead of letting your attention wander to the stresses of the day, take 5 or 10 minutes to ask yourself, “What am I grateful for today?”  It may be the sunshine, your child’s smile in the morning, your healthy breakfast, your body and how it carries you throughout life, or your partner or job.  What you are grateful for can be as vast as your imagination allows.  Be sure to drop into that feeling place of gratitude and really settle there for a while. Be in it, enjoy it, let it sink into your bones. Get creative.  There are many, many things to be grateful for.

Challenge:

Take it to the next level it by going out of your way to admire or give thanks to the people in your life you are grateful for.

Step 1 - Choose 1 person that you are grateful for, this could be a person in your life that you are actually struggling with at the moment, someone that is testing your patience. Or you could choose someone that has helped you, given you their time, or someone that has passed away. Anyone you choose is perfect.

Step 2- Now find a photo of them, this could be digital or not .

Step 3 - Choose 5 things that you are most grateful for having them in your life. Look at the photo as you do this excercise. Really feel it, feel it with every ounce of you as you write thank you, their name, for what? Thank you, thank you, thankyou.

Step 4 - Look at their photo as many times as you can today and say the words "thank you, thank you, thank you" in your head or out loud.

You can do this to more than one person if you wish.
