Home education is on the rise worldwide, including with a growing number of New Zealand families. This documentary, filmed in America, highlights one family's journey into home education, alongside the history of modern school-based education as well as a number of alternatives to school.
Come see the film, and afterward enjoy an informal Q & A session with some seasoned home educators from around the Nelson/Tasman region. Tea/coffee as well as spot prizes round out what promises to be an enlightening and enjoyable afternoon for anyone interested in learning.
Attendance is free, but we are suggesting a donation of $5/unwaged, $10/waged to help us offset the cost of obtaining the film and hiring the venue. Any proceeds will be donated back to the filmmaker or to one of our local homeschool organisations.
From the filmmaker's website: "All across America, parents are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the state of public education. The current state of our educational system & economy shines a spotlight on problems with traditional schools. Class Dismissed showcases a growing trend in alternative education strategies that are working for many families across America".
